Our society is sadistic enough that I’m still required to go through my test even with Appleby’s body still on the ground where it landed. I am seriously hoping they will remove it before I make it to the bar but knowing them they'll leave her as another way to mess with my mind.

I fly through the standard parts with relative ease - I am in serious pain right now, but I'm alive, so I can't really complain, not after Appleby.

The obstacles are awkward, but instead of trying to jump all of them, I also slide under some and use my hands to add extra height when I have no choice but to fly over the ones that are much too high for me.

I even manage to hop across the soaked stones without breaking an ankle or breaching the water. I finally finish, and now I have to face the bar. I feel a little guilty over how relieved I am feeling right now. Appleby’s body is no longer there to haunt me any further.

Conan is standing at the bottom of the bar where I’ll climb down if I manage to make it through this.

I'm in the middle waiting for the balls to launch at me when I manage to shift my upper body sideways enough to avoid the first one. I'm not lucky enough to avoid the next few, which hit my stomach twice and shoulder once.

The one that's hit my shoulder has knocked me completely off balance. I manage to hook my knees around the bar as I start to fall backwards and now I'm just dangling here upside down. I see a ball fly straight for my head, and I know it's going to be the end of me if it makes contact.

I throw myself forward, using my momentum to grab onto the bar with my hands and right myself. Using the knowledge I’ve gained from watching the other participants, I throw myself forward, grabbing hold of the bar and swinging my body around. My feet are now upright, and my full body weight is resting on my hands. Now I have the mobility to swing my body around, making a full circuit every time I see a ball headed for me.

Eventually, the balls stop coming, and I manage to pull myself back up onto the bar. Once I am standing on it, I slowly make my way to the end. I can't use the ladder to climb down, the adrenaline has gone, and my shoulder is making me pay for what I just put it through.

“Just jump, I'll make sure you don't injure yourself any further,” states Conan.

I don't really want to put my life in his hands, not with how injured he is, but I don't have much choice at the moment.

I sit on the edge and then nudge myself slowly forward until I’m dropping down to the ground. Conan's hands grip my waist as he lowers me the last couple of feet.

“Thanks for the assistance, I guess we're even now,” I state, regretting it almost instantly.
